Prof. Juliane Schicker has been working with the Twin Cities German Immersion School (TCGIS) over the summer to enhance their immersion offerings for K-8 grades at their Saint Paul location. In August, Schicker gave two workshops to new and returning teachers, which focused on introducing and practicing effective teaching techniques for the German immersion classroom that support language acquisition through content-based instruction and interactive, student-centered activities that align with the school’s social-emotional curriculum. Schicker’s collaboration with TCGIS aims to foster a more engaging and dynamic learning environment for students, to enrich their bilingual education experience, and to connect Carleton’s work in this regard with the broader educational landscape of the Twin Cities.
