Five Students Awarded Kuennecke Fellowships in 2026

27 February 2026

Congratulations to the new recipients of the Kuennecke Fellowship in German! The Kuennecke Fellowship was established to promote immersion in and engagement with German-speaking cultures through study programs, internships, research, and other opportunities in German-speaking countries.

Five students were awarded fellowships to support coursework, research, internships, and other experiences in German-speaking countries during spring and summer of 2026. This year’s awards go to Marina Deutsch ‘28, Marcus Ho ‘27, Ryan Soli ‘28, Teddy Dozier ‘28, and Joao Victor Cordeiro Biagioni Gomes ‘29.

Marina and Ryan will both use the funds to support their participation in the Vienna OCS program and to explore their own academic, professional, and personal interests while in Europe. Two other students will complete independent projects after the OCS program ends: Marcus will do a comparative study of urban planning, housing, and transportation systems in Vienna and Munich that supports his plans for possible graduate study in Europe and a potential career in urban planning. Teddy will complete an internship with Project Drawdown, an institute in Nuremberg that is developing methods to use geological science to combat climate change; the experience draws on his cultural and language learning in German as well as his work as a geology major here at Carleton. Finally, Victor will use the fellowship to support his participation in the Munich International Summer School program “The EU’s Quest for Competitiveness: Technology, Geoeconomics and International Power Dynamics,” a course organized through the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität that includes a three-week intensive German course as well as program modules in Vienna, Prague, and Munich.
