Lantern Procession 2

Sun, November 6, 2022 • 6:00pm - 8:00pm (2h) • Start at Skinner Memorial Chapel

The German and Chinese programs at Carleton are organizing a Lantern Procession on Sunday, November 6, at 6pm, starting at Skinner Chapel with destination downtown Northfield. In Germany, the “Laternenumzug” happens around St. Martin’s Day in November and people walk along the streets holding colorful, self-made lanterns while singing songs. The tradition of lanterns is also found in China and other Asian countries. People carry lanterns to wish good luck and blessings and the festival itself is a day to gather with friends and family. If you would like to make your own lantern, join our German and Chinese Language Associates on Tuesday, November 1, at 7pm in Parish House basement.
