Schöne Grüße aus Northfield! Ich heiße Seth Peabody und bin seit 2017 Visiting Assistant Professor an St. Olaf College. Ich freue mich darauf, im Herbst zu euch auf die andere Flussseite zu ziehen! Ursprünglich komme ich aus Duluth, Minnesota, habe dann meinen Bachelor (B.A., Germanistik; B.Mus., Tuba Performance) an der Northwestern University abgeschlossen. Promoviert habe ich an der Harvard University. Ich war auch Austauschstudent in Hamburg, Sprachassistent in Wien und Fulbrighter in München–und ich habe einen Sommer auf einem Bergbauernhof südlich von Salzburg gearbeitet. Meine Forschung hat mit deutscher Literatur, deutschen Filmen und der Umwelt zu tun. (Ein paar Schwerpunkte in letzter Zeit: Romane von Goethe, Grimms Märchen, Wolfgang Herrndorf, deutsche Berg- und Großstadtfilme.) In meiner Freizeit spiele ich gern mit meinen zwei Kindern (derzeit 4 und 5 Jahre alt), gehe langlaufen im Arboretum oder treffe mich mit Freunden bei einem Café in Northfield.
Greetings from Northfield! I’m Seth Peabody and have served as Visiting Assistant Professor of German at St. Olaf since 2017. I’m excited to join you at Carleton next fall! I’m originally from Duluth, MN and completed a B.A. (German) and B.Mus. (tuba performance) at Northwestern University. My PhD is from Harvard. I’ve also been a DAAD exchange student in Hamburg, Fulbright teaching assistant in Vienna, Fulbright researcher in Munich, and I spent one summer milking cows on an Alpine dairy farm south of Salzburg. My research interests deal with Geran literature, film, and the environment. (A few recent areas of focus: Goethe’s novels, the Grimms’ fairy tales, Wolfgang Herrndorf, German mountain and city films.) In my free time I enjoy playing with my two kids (4 and 5 years old), cross-country skiing in the Arb, and meeting friends at a cafe in downtown Northfield.
