The Bald Spot is still undergoing its transformation from green space to green space PLUS a thermal battery for campus!

The Rec Center got its facelift this summer as part of the Utility Master Plan.

Martha Larson, Carleton’s Manager of Campus Energy and Sustainability, gave a presentation at Reunion 2018 titled “Geothermal Under the Bald Spot? Utility Master Planning for the 21st Century.” You can see a video of the presentation or view the presentation slides as a PDF.

Drillers and Carleton geology department members work to install fiber optic cables in the Bald Spot geothermal field.
