Bald Spot Drilling Complete

12 September 2018

The last of three drilling rigs has packed up and moved out of the construction site on the Bald Spot. There are now 134 geothermal bores 520 feet deep on the Bald Spot that will provide renewable energy to campus! This is the last of three bore fields on campus — Bell Field has a horizontal bore field and the Mini Bald Spot has 77 vertical bores.

Next in the construction process, the crews are working to tie together each bore that will eventually flow to the East Energy Station below the Integrated Science Facility. This process is expected to be completed by November 2018.

Each individual bore will be connected in this trench with a larger main-line.
