Research Internship Program in GIA
7 January 2019GIA (Gemological Institute of America) invites qualified candidates to apply for its Research-Identification Internship Program at its Carlsbad, California and New York City locations. Ideal applicants will be students pursuing a Bachelor of Science and/or Master of Science in physics, materials science, geology, chemistry and related fields. The selected individuals will have the opportunity to learn and practice gemology by performing all types of thorough analysis of diamonds, colored stones and pearls. Interns will receive ongoing mentoring from experienced GIA scientists and gemologists in the areas of spectroscopy and gemology.

Summer Undergraduate Internship: Analyzing Global Climate Model Data to Understand Climate-Air Quality Linkages
7 January 2019Carnegie Energy Innovation at the Carnegie Institution for Science’s Department of Global Ecology on the Stanford University campus is looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated undergraduate student as part of a multi-institutional project to look at the coupled climate and air quality impacts of long-lived versus short-lived air pollutants using global climate models. The researcher will be expected to conduct 10 weeks of full-time research between the months of May and September. Start and end date can be flexible to accommodate quarter or semester schedules. Compensation includes a $5,000 stipend and a $1040 allowance for travel to a domestic scientific conference.
Review of applications will begin on February 15, 2018, but the position will remain open until filled.

Typical project assignments include collecting or compiling subsurface, environmental and geotechnical data, either in the field or from published and unpublished materials, entering data into and extracting data from standard computer programs, and researching regulatory or technical requirements. Will be required to travel to field assignments. May also be given technical writing or analysis assignments. All work performed by the incumbent will be under the supervision of the project manager or more senior personnel.
