Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions is seeking an Entry-Level Geoscientist to join our team in Wilmington, NC.

This is an entry-level professional position requirement a bachelors degree in the geosciences. Typical project assignments include collecting or compiling subsurface, environmental and geotechnical data, either in the field or from published and unpublished materials, entering data into and extracting data from standard computer programs, and researching regulatory or technical requirements. Will be required to travel to field assignments. May also be given technical writing or analysis assignments. All work performed by the incumbent will be under the supervision of the project manager or more senior personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performs field sampling observations and data collection assignments
  • Working in the field logging geologic, environmental and geotechnical borings under the supervision of a senior staff
  • Sampling various media including soils, groundwater, surface water and sediment
  • Involved in hydrogeologic testing (e.g. slug testing)
  • May be onsite to take notes and document remediation and construction
  • Performs standard or routine calculations; May input data into and/or run standard or, in some cases, advanced computer programs under supervision
  • Compiles information from reports and published documents; May, under limited supervision, evaluate or analyze the compiled information following standard methods or specific instructions
  • Under direct supervision of the project manager or senior staff, represents Wood and interacts in a professional manner with client and subcontractor representatives while on field assignments
  • Understands and applies safety requirements in the field

Additional Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • May be responsible for coordinating with subcontractors (such as analytical laboratories and drillers) while performing office assignments
  • May be responsible for reviewing client documents or assessing existing site conditions on routine projects or under routine circumstances
  • May be responsible for preparing complete drafts of simple, non-complex technical reports; alternately, may prepare drafts of portions of technical reports, manuals and field reports
  • May attend client meetings with project manager and other project personnel
  • May assist in the preparation of technical papers for publication or presentation
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills / Qualifications

Education, Experience and Skills Required:

  • 0 – 2 years of prior related work experience; experience in fieldwork is desirable
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field required
  • Experience with desktop and industry-specific software (e.g., MSOffice, AutoCAD, and MSProject) desired
  • Must have sound written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly with on-site contractors, supervisor or project manager regarding work assignments required

Physical Job Requirements:

  • Ability to stoop, kneel, climb and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to use hands to operate field equipment
  • Must complete employment physical demonstrating ability to meet job requirements, including the ability to wear a respirator, as required
  • Completion of annual or bi-annual employment physical, as required

License / Certification Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record
  • Must pass 40 Hour HAZWOPER Training and annual refresher course, if required

Work Environment:

  • May require work at remote sites around construction equipment, drilling rigs, and environmental contamination
  • Overtime and overnight stays required
  • Some fieldwork may require working with hazardous materials and in hazardous conditions
  • Will be required to follow all applicable health and safety procedures associated with work environment

Travel:

  • May travel frequently to project sites depending on particular assignment, including sites remote from the office, as part of on-site team
