The applications for the 5th year of USDA REEU (Research & Extension Experience for Undergraduates) for North Central Watershed Internship Program is now open! Applications are due November 30 for consideration for our summer 2026 program. Partners/locations that will be hosting interns this year include South Dakota State University (in Aberdeen), University of Wisconsin (in Milwaukee), University of Illinois, Iowa State University, and University of Missouri. This is a paid internship with full-time hours during the summer of 2026, for 10-12 weeks.
To get an idea of what past participants have done, you can view their StoryMaps here: 2024 and 2025. We are looking for undergraduate students who are interested in both research and extension/outreach experiences related to water quality, water management, soils, youth education, and/or weather & climate. They must be U.S. citizens with a graduation date no earlier than December 2026. The North Central Watershed Interns website is being updated to add the links to our 2026 application. The bios for the mentors and the type of work (lab-based, field-based, etc.) at each location are available on the website.
