This summer school will provide undergraduate students with a unique opportunity to learn about scientific research in a few subfields of geoscience through hands-on research projects in the Department of Geology & Geophysics at Texas A&M University. It is free of charge and the department will cover travel expenses, including transportation, lodging, and meals during the week.
We anticipate accepting 10 students for this summer school. Students who can meet ALL of the following criteria are eligible to apply:
- Students reside in the United States.
- Students have completed at least a freshman year and are in good academic standing
- Students are not admitted to any graduate program starting in Fall 2023.
There are no major- or coursework-related prerequisites to participate in this summer school.
Each student will select one specific research topic from the following list and learn that topic through group projects during the summer school week.

- Mineral Physics (hosted by Dr. Jin Zhang jinzhang@tamu.du)
- Experimental Rock Deformation (hosted by Dr. Hiroko Kitajima kitaji@tamu.edu and Dr. Frederick Chester chesterf@tamu.edu)
Please submit an application form no later than May 28, 2023 (Friday). The application outcome will be notified by June 12.
