URG2: Undergraduate Research in the Geosciences for Under-represented Groups

20 January 2022

We are writing today to bring your attention to a new summer internship program debuting this year called URG2: Undergraduate Research in the Geosciences for Under-represented Groups sponsored by the David and Lucile Packard Foundation. This program strives to broaden participation in Earth Science research by creating summer research and mentorship opportunities with current Geoscience Packard Fellows

The program features a one week intensive mentoring experience with all program participants near Mount Rainier, a 7 week research internship, and a $7,000 stipend for the summer. Supervised by participating Packard Fellows, research internships will take place at the fellows’ home institution (with virtual options in some cases), with support for travel and local housing for student interns provided by the program. The cohort of student interns will meet virtually throughout the summer for professional development, networking, and scientific skill-building activities. This program is open to any undergraduate student currently enrolled in a U.S. 2-year or 4-year institution. No prior coursework in earth sciences is required.

We will be hosting a virtual information session on January 26, 2022 at 11am PST/2pm EST. Please sign up to be sent the zoom link. The application is available and is due on February 25, 2022, 11:59pm PST.

For additional information and important deadlines please see our website.

Best, Karen McKinnon, on behalf of the URG2 team
