GWSS majors learn to include gender and sexuality along with class and race, as central elements of social and cultural analysis. Through the major, students explore a variety of topics, including feminist pedagogies and knowledge production, queer and trans theory, LGBTQ+ identity and history, feminist cultural studies and media, black feminist thought, reproductive justice and feminist activism, and more.
The GWSS program sponsors many events for majors. These events include our fall welcome back celebration, our winter pizza party, and our spring strawberries and chocolate celebration – as well as a few other events planned by our SDAs. If you are a GWSS major or someone who is interested in studying gender, women’s & sexuality studies, the program encourages you to come to as many events as you can. They are great opportunities to get to know fellow majors, minors, and faculty members!
