Major Emily Epperson ’14 is the co-winner of the Catherine E. Boyd Essay Prize in Medieval and Renaissance Studies at Carleton. Concentrator Anya Zach ’15 (Spanish) and French Teaching Assistant Cory Georgopoulos ’15 (History) were honored for the excellence of their writing portfolios (‘exemplary’).

Senior Majors to Student Teach, Enroll in Culinary School, Enter Program in Marriage Counseling
23 May 2014Our graduating French & Francophone Studies majors are preparing to enter a variety of professional fields.
Alexis Ervin will be student teaching in the Twin Cities at L’Etoile du Nord, an elementary French immersion school in St. Paul, and at South Minneapolis High School in South Minneapolis. Katharine Noakes plans to receive a Certificate in Culinary Arts at the San Francisco Cooking School. Michelle Garcia will do graduate work in marriage counseling at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado.

28 April 2014French and Francophone Studies majors Emily Epperson, Mallory Guinee, Sean McGiverin-Odeide, and Caley Shannon; Geoffrey Goddard (History major); Lucinda Robinson (Mathematics major; Educational Studies concentration); Ariane Mass (English); Maddie Reynolds (English; French concentration) and Shanna Yang (Biology major) were selected to participate in the 2014-15 Teaching Assistant Program in France (TAPIF). Emily will teach English in Strasbourg, Mallory in Paris, Sean in Montpellier, Caley in Guadeloupe, Geoffrey in Amiens, Ariane in Lille, and Maddie and Shanna in Lyon.

Four members of the Humanities Center Seminar, “Varieties of Public Humanities,” will briefly discuss their scholarship, in which the “public” is primarily a community partner in their research process.

Cathy Yandell Elected to the Executive Committee for French Sixteenth-Century Literature of the Modern Language Association
20 January 2014Cathy Yandell, W.I. and Hulda F. Daniell Professor of French Literature, Language, and Culture, has been elected to the Executive Committee for French Sixteenth-Century Literature of the Modern Language Association for a five-year term. She will serve as Chair of the Division in 2018.

Dana Strand Secures Funding for Tournées Film Festival at Carleton (February 4 – 18)
16 January 2014Dana Strand, Andrew W. Mellon Professor of French and the Humanities, has received funding from The Tournées Film Festival program of French American Cultural Exchange (FACE) to show five French films in February 2014 as a part of a larger international film festival at Carleton during winter and spring terms 2014. The screenings in the Weitz Center for Creativity cinema will be open to the larger community and will also be woven into language, literature, and cinema and media studies courses.
