Keïta, Keynote Speaker at University of KwaZulu-Natal

Chérif Keïta, William H. Laird Professor of French and the Liberal Arts, was invited by the University of KwaZulu-Natal (South Africa) to give the keynote speech of a week-long symposium celebrating the 150th anniversary of Reverend Dr. John Langalibalele Dube (1871-1946), the founding first President of the African National Congress (Nelson Mandela’s party). He presented a paper titled “My Two Decades With a Camera in the Bush of Spirits,” in which he connected 19th century Northfield to the birth of the liberation movement in South Africa.
