Laird Professor of French and the Liberal Arts, published a piece titled “Ce que Philip Watson Pillsbury Jr., a dit du Mali” in the Mali Tribune, as an obituary and a tribute to Philip Watson Pillsbury, Jr., who served as a U.S. diplomat in the early days of Mali’s independence. My research and film production in South Africa was recognized in a series aired on SABC1 in March 2021, titled “On The Shoulders of Giants,” about the intellectuals and creative people such as Reverend John Langalibalele Dube, the first President of the ANC, and his wife Nokutela Dube, who paved the way for the country’s liberation from Apartheid.
