    Each Fall, FOCUS sends interested students to the SACNAS National Diversity in STEM Conference, a whirlwind weekend of inspiring and engaging programing for current undergrads, graduate students, and professionals in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) fields. SACNAS celebrates STEM diversity by combining cutting-edge science with training, mentoring, and cultural activities to provide a powerful and unforgettable professional experience.

  • Deadline: June 1st, 2017. Milliman, a global leader in actuarial and related products and services, is offering the Milliman Opportunity Scholarship to assist students from ethnic groups or races that are under-represented in the fields of actuarial science, data science, computer science, economics, programming, mathematics, statistics, data analytics, and finance.

  • Deadline: May 15th, 2017. The Horton Global Scholars Program offers a $3000 Scholarship for off campus studies programs for students in Economics and STEM disciplines. Find out more and apply!!

  • tru Shrimp Internship

    Deadline: March 31st, 2017. trū® Shrimp provides the most cutting-edge technology and knowledge to the shrimp industry. As a trū® Shrimp Intern, you will assist Research Technicians and Technician Assistants in daily tasks. This will consist of assisting in research experiments, collecting and recording data, preparing tables and figures on collected data, collecting and analyzing water and shrimp samples, assist in feed manufacturing, and assist in preparing reports. Intern will work a minimum of 40 hours per week, and will be paid $12 per hour.

  • Deadline: March 15th, 2017. The American Geosciences Institute will be hiring two interns this summer in our Geoscience Policy and Critical Issues programs – see below for more details of each. The internships are based in Alexandria, VA (just across the river from DC), run for 12 weeks, and come with a fixed stipend of $5000. You must be a U.S. citizen and enrolled in, or have recently completed, a geoscience or geo-related bachelor’s or master’s degree program to apply.

  • Native American Research Center for Health (NARCH) Program at Great Lakes Inter-Tribal Council (GLITC) in Lac du Flambeau, WI. The Program is offering PAID summer internships geared to Native American college students from Wisconsin, Michigan, and Minnesota entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year who are interested in the science, health, and research fields.

  • Deadline: March 3rd, 2017. The Minnesota Zoo’s Prairie Butterfly Conservation Program is hiring up to two temporary seasonal positions for this upcoming summer to assist in care of populations of U.S. Threatened and Endangered prairie butterflies at the Zoo. We are not necessarily looking for candidates with an entomological background, but for highly-motivated individuals with an interest in conservation biology, animal welfare, and have a high attention for detail. We will provide training for all tasks. Feel free to share with others.

  • Deadline: March 6th, 2017. A number of special Sesquicentennial Fellowships are available through the Center for Community and Civic Engagement, including several positions that deal with educated underrepresented middle/high schoolers and a summer Healthfinders Improvement program in Northfield.

  • TORCH SUMMER ASSISTANT

    Deadline: March 6th, 2017 TORCH (Tackling Obstacles and Raising College Hopes) supports the high school graduation and postsecondary enrollment of students who are low-income, minority, or would-be first generation college students. Responsibilities include: Support TORCH summer programming for students in middle and high school. The Summer Fellow will support programming for youth transitioning to higher education and also help connect younger students with local and regional summer programming opportunities on college campuses.
