Drivers who intend to use fleet vehicles and/or rental vehicles for College business must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license.  All drivers must be pre-qualified and appear on the list of Authorized College Drivers before being allowed to drive fleet vehicles or rental vehicles (including Enterprise Car Share) for business travel.

Faculty and Staff can pre-qualify as an Authorized Driver:

  1. Contact the Risk Manager (Randie Johnson, rajohnso@carleton.edu, ext. 4178) to get your driving record obtained through WD/HireRight and to get enrolled in the online training course Driver Safety Fundamentals.
  2. Receive verification from the Business Office that your name is included on the list of Authorized College Drivers
  3. Review the fleet vehicle procedures and fleet vehicle policy
  4. Honor Carleton’s shared fleet vehicle courtesies

Students can pre-qualify as an Authorized Student Driver:

  1. Apply for a certified copy of your driving record — obtained from your home State’s Department of Motor Vehicles — and submit it to the OneCard Office. Our insurance company requests a 3-year driving history.
  2. Read the Fleet Vehicle Policies/Procedures Manual
  3. Complete a Student Driver Application.
  4. Honor Carleton’s shared fleet vehicle courtesies
  5. Once these steps are completed contact the Onecard Office, onecard@carleton.edu ext. 5384, to get enrolled in the online training course Driver Safety Fundamentals.

You will be authorized to drive College vehicles upon completion of the steps listed above. Your name will be added to the official List of Authorized Student Drivers and may be shared with other members of the Carleton community.
