Every year, a number of Carleton students take advantage of Carleton funded fellowships. Check on our Instagram on Monday and Thursdays and the news section of the Carleton Fellowships website on Fridays to hear from our Fellows and get updates and tips about applications, Carleton funded Fellowships, and more!

Anna Greenlee ’24

Where did you travel and what did you do?

I went to Madrid, Spain to do a project interviewing managers and assistants of women’s football clubs to study inequality in women’s football in Spain.

What was the most interesting/rewarding part of what you did?

The reflections that this experience prompted were the most rewarding part. Although this project was done over winter break, I have continued thinking about ways to increase equity and support for women’s football teams in the US and Spain, and have connected with people who work with NWSL teams to continue learning about the way women’s clubs are run. This project helped me gain insights into inequality existing between men’s and women’s football in Spain, and between women’s clubs in the US and Spain.

How will the experience you had add to your Carleton education?

I feel really lucky to have had the opportunity to design a project outside of my major and the academic interests that I have  previously done research in. This project showed me that I could potentially follow a career in sports business, which is a passion of mine that I previously never had the opportunity to explore.

What would you tell someone applying for a Carleton-funded fellowship?

I would advise someone applying for a Carleton-funded fellowship to explore outside their comfort zone. I’m so glad that I took the time to design a project aligned with my interests that I would not have been able to learn about in the classroom.
