• study the potential effects of the modernist central urban planning of Chandigarh, India, on the informal economy of the city using the case study of street vendors;
  • travel to Russia to visit and photograph sites, and interview Russian author Lidia Golovkova, as a continuation of translating the author’s book “Where Are You?” about cremation in the Soviet Union;
  • travel to major cities and historical sites in Croatia, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina to document in video the ways that memories of conflict are kept alive or suppressed in contemporary societies;
  • research the attitudes and expectations of Syrian refugees in Reyhanli, Turkey towards Western foreign policy.

These are just examples of projects that have been funded.  Other topics are welcome! Students are urged to consult with the Director of Student Fellowships early in the process of drawing up their proposals.
