Shirley Dulski

Shirley Dulski, age 82, died on January 29th. Shirley worked in Carleton’s Business Office from 1991 to 2009 as an accounts payable specialist. For many faculty, staff, and students, she was the go-to person in the Business Office, helping to meet deadlines and get timely payments made. She was dedicated to her work and had many student workers who were devoted to her. She is described as a loyal and good friend to those who knew her.

Because her father was in the military, Shirley grew up living around the world. After her husband’s death and before she came to Carleton, she started her own business and connected with other women business owners in Northfield. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, along with being an avid and skilled Bridge player. A more complete obituary is on the Benson and Langehough Funeral Home website.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 16, at 10am at the Church of St. Dominic.

For ten years, Shirley processed my ridiculously messed up receipts. Imagine that! She was a lovely person--kind, authentic, and professional.

Shirley was one of many friendly, welcoming, and exceedingly competent staff members whom I relied upon in my early years at Carleton. I always budgeted extra time to speak with her about children, hobbies, and wonderful students that worked in the Business Office. A wonderful person.

Shirley was a key member of the remarkable team of women running the business office. She and they saved me numerous times with a seemingly bottomless supply of expertise and patience during my time as Music Department Chair and Co-Chair and during my six years as Dean for Budget and Planning.

Shirley's smile and laugh raised my spirits on many days! I agree with those writing above that Shirley also saved me numerous times in the decades that I worked in the President's Office.....Never making me feel foolish for asking questions. Her knowledge was infinite, and if she didn't know, she knew who to ask. Her stories of travels were memorable. I will forever remember her friendliness and professionalism. God bless Shirley's memory.
