“Mrs. H” was a kind and gracious teacher of violin during her 24 years at Carleton. She always had a smile and a greeting for students and colleagues alike. She studied violin with Josef Gingold at Indiana University, considered one of the finest pedagogues in violin, and she brought his wealth of expertise which she adapted effectively for Carleton students. She was a also generous colleague, performing numerous solo recitals and participating in many collaborative chamber recitals on campus. She also taught at Augsburg and Macalester, and I know that they, like we, feel her loss profoundly. Rest in Peace, Mary.

Thank you Mary for your many years of dedicated teaching at Carleton. You were always so kind and accommodating to other music faculty, and your students. This is a difficult loss for all of us. Rest in peace.

I had the honor of having Mary as a colleague in the Carleton Music Department. She was a terrific musician and a gifted teacher. More than that she was a warm and wonderful person always ready with a kind word and a smile. My two daughters were fortunate to have a her as a teacher of both violin and life during their teen years.

Mary was a gifted teacher, a supportive colleague, and a dear friend. I feel fortunate to have been able to know and work with her over the years. I learned much from her about teaching and playing music, both of which were inspirational. I miss her greatly.

Mrs. H was my vibrant, smart, supportive violin teacher during my time at Carleton. She encouraged my growth as a violinist and as a whole person. She loved students of all levels and embraced each student's unique abilities. I loved her dearly and will miss her dearly.
