  • Alice Hall

    Alice Hall, age 94, died on March 22nd in Northfield. Alice worked in the Carleton Business Office from 1961 to 1984. She was an engaged and lively person and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

    A funeral service for Alice was held on March 24th.

  • Daniel Van Eyck

    Daniel Van Eyck ’54 died on November 19th in Madison, WI at the age of 85. Dan had three titles during his years here at Carleton from 1967–1970: Dean of Students, Dean of Men, and Assistant Professor of History. He went on to work for the University of Wisconsin System Administration.

  • Jessie Lindberg

    Jessie Lindberg died on Nov. 18th at the age of 99. Jessie worked as an assistant in the Carleton Library from at least 1972-1980. She was dedicated and responsible — finding books that had been wrongly shelved brought a smile and a twinkle to her eyes. Her eagerness to help people continued even after she moved to the Three Links Care Center four years ago.

  • Gail Huyck

    Gail Huyck died on Nov 15th at the age of 80. Gail worked as the secretary in the Audio-Visual Department from 1974–1981, as well as secretary to the Coordinator of Studies in Film and Television, 1975–1980, and as secretary to the Director of the Film Arts Program, 1980–1981. Gail’s creativity didn’t start or end, however, with film. She loved to sketch, paint, and cook. She had a wide circle of friends that extended to students, including athletes coached by her husband, Bill.

  • Fred Gaggioli

    Fred Gaggioli, age 63, died on Saturday, September 30th, after a valiant battle against a brain tumor. As the Mail Services Coordinator from September 2011 until January 2016, Fred touched many lives on campus. He managed his work with grace and a friendly attitude toward all. In addition to his family and friends, Fred loved students, Knights football, his two pugs, and cleanliness, starting each morning by cleaning the counter with 409. He will be truly missed as a down-to-earth, generous, and kind soul.

  • Tucky McCarthy Elliott

    Tucky McCarthy Elliott ’58, former trustee and Carleton employee, died Saturday, August 19, 2017 in Kalamazoo. MI. Incredibly kind, thoughtful, and wise, Tucky set high standards and worked energetically and collaboratively to achieve her objectives. This was to Carleton’s great benefit as she touched so many areas of the College and won the hearts of so many staff, faculty, and alumni.

  • Frank Wright

    Frank Wright ’50 died on August 4th at the age of 91. Frank worked at Carleton for 38 years, beginning as Assistant Treasurer in 1955 and rising through the ranks to Vice President and Treasurer. He retired as Treasurer Emeritus in 1990, and continued for three years as the Secretary to the Investment Committee of the Board of Trustees.

  • Chuck Donnell

    Chuck Donnell, age 85 and class of 1954, died on July 14th after a valiant battle with cancer. Chuck was a Carleton Trustee from 1981–1985 and worked in various capacities in the Development Office between 1990 and 2010, creating Carleton’s very successful 50th Reunion Program. He loved to build and renew connections between people and the college and was deeply committed to keeping it affordable for many.

  • Betty Armstrong

    5 July 2017

    Betty Armstrong, 87, died on Monday, July 3rd. Betty was a switchboard operator at Carleton from 1963 until 1995, but Betty’s Carleton connection started much earlier. As the daughter of Earl Baldwin, the groundskeeper of Laird Field for about a half century beginning in 1926, Betty’s home throughout her childhood was an apartment in Laird Stadium.

  • Mark A. Greene

    23 June 2017

    Mark A. Greene, the college’s first professionally trained archivist, died in a car accident on June 21st. Mark worked at Carleton from 1985–1990 and went on to an impressive archival career at three additional institutions, authoring important articles in the field, and serving as a president of the Society of American Archivists (SAA).
