    John Philip Stark recently passed away at the age of 73. Phil worked at Carleton for 33 years with many different titles, beginning in 1980 as the Director of Media Services and retiring in 2013 as the Technical Coordinator for Events in College Relations.

    LaNelle Olsen, age 89, died on March 6th in Northfield. LaNelle was a Development Staff Associate at Carleton from 1974–1979. Beyond her work in Development at both colleges, LaNelle was known for her energy, good humor, and commitment to peace and social justice.

    David Roberts, age 58, died in Northfield on February 24th after a long illness. David worked for the Sodexho food service from December 1996 to May 2003. He made strong friendships with students over those years and was known as “Superfan David Roberts” because of his enthusiasm for Carleton athletics.

    Nancy Cantwell, age 88, died on November 16th in an assisted living facility near her son’s home in Maryland. Nancy worked in the Carleton Library as an assistant in circulation from 1976-1986. She was married to Richard Cantwell, an emeritus professor of German, who died in 2014.

  • Dennis Easley

    Dennis Easley, age 68, died Wednesday, September 26 after a difficult illness. Dennis was Carleton’s Superintendent of Grounds from 1979 until his retirement in 2012. He was also the clock operator for basketball during many of those years, including the most recent season. Dennis cared deeply about the Carleton community and wanted the physical campus to reflect the college’s values and be welcoming of all. His quiet remarks and actions were sprinkled with a dry sense of humor.

  • Betty Kendall

    Betty Kendall, age 88, died on Sunday, June 3rd in Northfield. Betty worked at Carleton for almost 35 years, beginning in 1968 as secretary to the Chemistry and Geology departments, then to History and Modern Languages for 3 years, and from 1972 until 1996 in Economics and Sociology/Anthropology. After her retirement, she continued to work part time as a checker for Sodexho until 2003.

  • Joan Reitz

    Joan Reitz, 91, died on Saturday, May 19th here in Northfield. Joan worked at Carleton first as secretary in the Art Department in 1975-1976, and then for 13 years as secretary to the Chaplain until her retirement in 1989. Friends and colleagues describe Joan as unfailingly gracious and kind to all and a loyal friend. She was devoted to her family, Carleton, its students, her church, and many community groups.

  • Arlene Kluver

    27 April 2018

    Arlene Kluver, age 89, died on Thursday, April 26th, at the Three Links Care Center here in Northfield. Arlene worked from 1965 to 1995 in the Office of Admissions, including eight years as Secretary to the Dean of Admissions. She continued to work when needed as a Sodexho checker in Burton Dining Hall for two years after her retirement.

    Mary Bigelow, age 61, died on Tuesday, April 17th at the Reflections Care Center in Northfield. Mary worked part time and seasonally from 1991 through this past fall in Carleton’s “Garden of Quiet Listening” behind Watson Hall.

  • Alice Hall

    Alice Hall, age 94, died on March 22nd in Northfield. Alice worked in the Carleton Business Office from 1961 to 1984. She was an engaged and lively person and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

    A funeral service for Alice was held on March 24th.
