Mike Jochim

Mike Jochim, 56, died April 9th after being diagnosed with leukemia just two weeks ago. Mike worked as a Maintenance Electrician at Carleton from January 2006 until the present.

Mike’s job took him into all reaches of the campus, so he was known by many of us for his good work, kind ways, and hearty laugh. Mike’s generous spirit and a ready smile will be missed by many.

Mike’s life will be celebrated on Friday, July 24th at Ballard-Sunder Funeral & Cremation Reception Center at 833 Marschall Rd., Shakopee MN 55379. Visitation will be from 9–11 a.m. with a Celebration of Life program beginning at 11 a.m. The family is collecting memories of Mike on index cards and there will be an opportunity for anyone who wants to share a memory of Mike during the program as well. Masks will be required at the Celebration and disposable masks will be provided. If you are unable to attend the Celebration of Life and would like to share a memory, please email your memory to his partner, Brenda Scheer, at brscheer@ymail.com.

Mike was a welcome presence whenever he was assigned to our department. Talented, friendly, kind, and always ready to help. He will be deeply missed.

Mike was everything you could ask in a colleague - friendly, caring, helpful, funny, smart, nice. I am heartbroken. We became friends working the last few months working together. The thought of never seeing him at the Weitz to keep things running breaks my heart.

I am so sad to read this farewell just now! Mike was always a friendly guy, who competently handled all requests in Hulings Hall. He had an easy-going manner, with a good sense of humor. Mike will be truly missed by all!
