Carleton has obtained a Conditional Use Permit from the City of Northfield for demolition of the Music and Drama Center, which includes the Arena Theater and Concert Hall, located east of the Skinner Chapel parking lot. An open house was held on Thursday, January 6 to discuss the project with our neighbors.
Demolition of the Music and Drama Center will begin mid-June, 2022. Our music and theater departments moved out of the facility when construction at the Weitz Center was completed. Once vacant, the buildings were used as temporary swing space while the Anderson science building project was under construction. Since the completion of Anderson Hall, the buildings have been vacant.
The Music and Drama Center site is identified as a future academic building location in Carleton’s facilities master plan. The college will restore the site to green space until there is a need for a future academic building.
