Taking Care of the Land: Indigenous Natural Resources Management, Governance and Climate Adaptation

Dr. Florencia Pech-Cardenas is a Yucatec Maya scholar and scientist. Her research focuses on studying intersections of governance, sustainability and community development in natural resource-dependent Indigenous communities in Mexico and the United States under contexts of globalization and climate change. She uses interdisciplinary approaches in her research, centering Tribal and Indigenous voices and perspectives alongside theories and methods from Native American and Indigenous studies and natural sciences. Her research is community-based and community-driven by Indigenous peoples and local communities. She is currently a postdoctoral researcher leading a collaborative synthesis research project focused on Traditional Ecological Knowledge and climate adaptation based at the Institute on the Environment at the University of Minnesota.
