This week in the Senior Spotlight: Sarah Walz
1. Describe your experience as an English major in six words.
My thesis is here somewhere. (Revise!)
2. If everyone moved to Mars but you missed the flight, which three literary characters would you want to keep you company?
Omakayas, the protagonist from Louise Erdrich’s children’s novel The Birchbark House and Laurie from Little Women because we would have amazing adventures together. Also Dr. Suess’s Lorax because someone needs to speak for the trees when there’s no one left on Earth.
3. If you could create your own English class, what would it be?
What Makes a Bestseller? We would read popular books that don’t necessarily get studied in the major and talk about how bestsellers become bestsellers both nationally and internationally. It would end with a creative final project where you craft an ad campaign for your own bestselling novel. May the books be ever in your favor.
4. If you could give your Freshman self one piece of advice for an English class what would it be?
Those term by term schedules that you keep making where you plan out the rest of Carleton are hilariously inaccurate. Every. Time.
