This week in the Senior Spotlight: Nick Hittner-Cunningham
1. Describe your experience as an English major in six words.
Privileging liminality, or what you will.
2. If everyone moved to Mars but you missed the flight, which three literary characters would you want to keep you company?
I would want to keep Beatrice from Much Ado About Nothing because life would never be boring with her around, Taylor Greer from Barbara Kingsolver’s The Bean Trees because she’s spirited, compassionate, and always up for an adventure, and the Little Prince because he would keep me on my toes, and call me out on doing things like using the phrase “privileging liminality.”
3. If you could create your own English class, what would it be?
I would want to teach a class on depictions of madness – we would read Alias Grace, The Changeling, King Lear, Angels in America, and Foucault. Or else a class called Bob Dylan/Dylan Thomas/Thomas Stearns Eliot.
4. If you could give your Freshman self one piece of advice for an English class what would it be?
Be well, speak up, and don’t worry so much (with a nod to Garrison Keillor).
