To ring in the new academic year, today the Miscellany celebrates the liberal arts student with a reminder that not every English major is just an English major.

Madelaine Horn ‘16 (Fall, Soccer)

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) awards Academic All-Conference to student-athletes with a minimum 3.5 GPA in season. Only sophomores, juniors, and seniors are considered for the award. Student-athletes must also meet competition requirements to qualify for recognition. Those in team sports must compete in 50 percent of their team’s varsity regular season contests. Cross country runners must finish in the top 100 at the conference championship or be in the top seven of their team at the MIAC Championships. Swimmers and divers must finish in the top 16 in an individual event or participate in a relay race. Track and field athletes must score in an individual event or compete on a relay team at the MIAC Championships.[1]
Wilson Josephson ’16 also received Honorable Mention in the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) selection of swimmers and divers to its Scholar All-America team. For Honorable-Mention recognition, student-athletes must have achieved a minimum 3.5 GPA and a “B” time standard or have competed at their respective qualifying meets.[2] Josephson was the only Carleton athlete to receive this award for the 2015 season.
