Junior Spotlight: Ellen Currier

ellencurrierThis week in the Junior Spotlight: Ellen Currier.

What is one thing your fellow English majors don’t know about you?

I secretly aspire to be the standout erotica writer of my generation, the next E.L. James (but like, better, obviously).

Why are you an English major? Why not History, SoAn, CAMS, etc.?

I think it all goes back to my elementary school reading program, called RAH (Read At Home). It had its own theme song and prizes and stuff. I expected the same from the Carleton English Department, but by the time I realized that none of the professors were giving me pencils and candy for reading the books they assigned, it was too late to switch.

What is one book you’d be fine never reading again?

This might be an unpopular opinion among the hipsters at Carleton, but On the Road by Jack Kerouac. I’d rather go out and have my own adventures than read about a group of straight white males driving around and being obnoxious.

You’re stranded on a desert island and can only bring three books. Which books would you bring?

The ASPCA Complete Guide to Cats by James Richards DK Eyewitness Books: Cat by Juliet Clutton-Brock, and The Cat in Art by Stefano Zuffi. Because if I were stranded on an island, I would really, really miss my cat.
