We bring you another creative spotlight this week with a poem from sophomore Will Loner (’19). Though he has yet to declare a major, he is interested in English and the Environmental Sciences. Thanks to Will for sharing his work with us!
Watchers in the Clouds
Some say that giants
live above us in the sky.
The great hulking beasts
of fairytales, locked away
in their castles built on clouds.
This has always seemed
far-fetched in my opinion.
But I don’t argue,
because there are giants there.
Our giants, wrapped snug in blue.
They are our watchers,
all who came and left before.
They are in the sun,
and every star, and all the
shadows of the moon. They are
watching
over
Me
and
Us
and
All
I can see them, sometimes, in the sunset,
hands reaching over unseen parapets,
peeking down for a glimpse with opal eyes.
Oh, and our earthly ones they mesmerize.
