Creative Spotlight: “Lifesong” by Kathleen Danielson

2 May 2018

This week, the Miscellany has a poem by Kathleen Danielson (’20) to share! Kathleen is a sophomore English major from Woodbury, MN and is currently abroad on the London program. She has a slightly unhealthy obsession with Jane Austen, and her dream is to wander dramatically across the moors in a billowing dress Wuthering Heights-style, a fantasy she fully plan on indulging while she’s abroad. Thanks for sharing your work with us, Kathleen!

Lifesong

6 a.m.
and unfamiliar
birdsongs draw me to the purple sky

I rub at fogged windowpanes and
peer through stark spindly branches
but the birds are invisible and the song surrounds
me, without origin
echoing among the brick buildings
triumphantly alive
