Teaching with Archives and Special Collections: Pedagogy, Ethics, and Acquisitions

Sat, October 4, 2025 • 9:00am - 3:00pm (6h) • Gould Library Athenaeum

This one-day symposium will focus on teaching with special collections and archives in a small liberal arts college environment. Our two morning panels will showcase the rich ways Carleton faculty use primary sources in the undergraduate classroom and highlight the ongoing efforts to diversify and expand collections with an eye toward questions of acquisition ethics and stewardship. Our panelists include faculty and staff from a variety of disciplines and departments, as well as current undergraduate students, and the afternoon portion of the event will include a catered lunch, a showcase featuring materials from Carleton’s collections, and an optional hands-on workshop with the Carleton Learning and Teaching Center.
