Roger Paas, William H. Laird Professor of German and the Liberal Arts, Emeritus, has published a chapter in A History of American History and Culture of the First World War, ed. Tim Dayton and Mark Van Wienen (Cambridge University Press, 2020), pp. 76-93. The chapter is entitled “Popular Music: Tin Pan Alley as National Barometer” and draws heavily on the material he published earlier in his anthology America Sings of War: American Sheet Music from World War I (Wiesbaden: Harrassowitz, 2014).
