Carl Talks

Public Media Under Pressure — Leading MPR News Through Minnesota's Most Consequential Years
with Stephanie Curtis '92

Thursday, September 24, 2026
3 p.m. Central Time
via Zoom

As federal funding cuts reshape the future of public media, Stephanie Curtis '92 will discuss what's at stake for local journalism and the communities it serves. She'll draw on her experience leading the MPR News team through five of the most consequential years in Minnesota news to talk about what it takes to keep a newsroom steady through political and financial upheaval.

Stephanie Curtis '92 is the director of programming for MPR News. Her career at MPR began as an intern on the local All Things Considered. She’s produced call-in shows, ideas festivals, a literary series, and was a founding staff member of The Current. The MPR News audience knows her best as the Movie Maven. Stephanie currently lives in the city where she was born, St. Paul, with her husband (Carleton ’94.)
