Quand la terre respire exhibition by Sarah Abdel-Jelil '16

Fri, June 19, 2026 - Sat, June 20, 2026 • Hamlin Creative Space, Weitz Center lower level

Quand la terre respire (“when the earth breathes”) by Sarah Abdel-Jelil '16 is a multimedia installation drawing from the artist’s nomadic upbringing, fractal geometry, Islamic art and design, pattern, dance, repetition, and the oscillation between personal and geological time.

Sarah Abdel-Jelil is a Mauritanian-American filmmaker, dancer, musician, and multimedia artist based in Minneapolis, Mni Sota Makoce (Minnesota). Having grown up in eight different countries, her artwork explores notions of home, movement, and liminal spaces. Her ongoing practice of dance time-lapse combines slow movement with time-lapse photography as a way of inviting people to move in tandem with the cycles of the natural world.
