Encountering Death: Meditation and Exhibition

Encountering Death. An immersive encounter with mortality through photography, guided meditation, and reflection. The experience begins with a guided meditation on death, followed by a silent walk through the exhibition. Participants will then be invited to write or draw a reflection--an offering of memory, insight, or legacy--which will become part of the evolving exhibition. Meditations & Legacy Workshop. Encountering Death is an immersive public exhibition and meditation workshop taking place at the Hamlin Space in the Weitz Center for Creativity on May 25-26 (5:00-7:30pm).

The project features Life Before Death: Encounters with the Terminally Ill, with photographs by German photographer Walter Schels and texts by journalist Beate Lakotta. It also explores the experience of cancer through the work of Spanish artist Josune Urrutia Asua.

Both exhibitions are free and open to the public from May 20–30 at the Hamlin Space in the Weitz Center for Creativity.

The event is part of the course Death and Dying Under Capitalism (Spanish Department) and the Vital Death Cafe, sponsored by the Office of the Chaplain and Ethical Inquiry at Carleton (EthIC).
