For a century, the Cowling Arboretum has played an integral role in education, conservation, and recreation for Carleton and the Northfield community. We invite you to join us in celebrating this milestone and College’s role in developing the state’s first arboretum — a diverse landscape that is central to our identity and a beloved resource for all.

Join us for this joyous celebration, including:

Commemorative tree planting to honor the legacy of President Donald Cowling
Celebration of Professor Harvey E. Stork and Grounds Superintendent D. Blake Stewart who originally proposed and developed the Arboretum
Formal remarks from College and community leaders
Performance by the Carleton Choir
Visits with faculty and students using the Arb for research and academics
Guided walking tours, led by staff and student naturalists

This event will take place at the Boardman Memorial, behind the Rec Center on Carleton’s campus.
