Yansi Pérez is Associate Provost and Professor of Spanish and Latin American Studies at Carleton, where she has taught since 2009. Her love of literature began at a young age, listening to fairy tales on the radio in El Salvador. The worlds these stories opened, along with the alternative realities they made possible, offered a sense of boundless possibility in a country marked by war during her early years. What began as a necessary form of escape gradually evolved into a deeper appreciation for beauty and artistic craft. In her work on literary and cultural production, she explores the centrality of language, memory, and the human experience.
What Matters to Me and Why? is a continuing series of faculty and staff talks on life, work, and meaning. Every term, staff/faculty members are invited to explore the question: what matters to you and why?
These conversations are a wonderful opportunity for students, faculty, and staff to come to know the people at Carleton in a deeper, more personal way. Lunch is provided.
