Dave Bailey ’85 is a Los Angeles-based artist and currently Benedict Distinguished Visiting Professor of Art History. His multi-disciplinary projects engage geographical networks and local places, often incorporating experimental modes of making and learning.

He has presented his work in solo exhibitions at institutions including the Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus, The St. Louis Art Museum, The Gallery at REDCAT, Los Angeles, Tensta Konsthall, Stockholm, Malmo Konsthall, Malmo, and Secession, Vienna. International group exhibitions include the São Paulo Biennale, Biennale de Lyon, Busan Biennale and others. With Aboriginal leader Sam Watson he developed the CityCat Project, an inter-generational project of performance, ceremony and activism on the Brisbane River/Maiwar, Brisbane.

Dave will present some of his projects, with one eye on how his experiences at Carleton helped shape his approach, and the other on how his artistic practice informs his teaching here this fall.
