Andrew Bean’02, Specialist Veterinarian, Animal Emergency & Referral Center of Minnesota, will be sharing his career path through our CarlsChat program. This is a great way to explore and network with alumni in career paths that you may have interest in.
Bio:
Dr. Andrew Bean '02 was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He majored in music at Carleton, and embarked upon a short-lived career as a professional musician before becoming enamored with veterinary medicine. Dr. Bean received his DVM from the University of Minnesota (2011), and completed a small and exotic animal rotating internship at Valley Animal Hospital in Tucson, AZ. He spent a year in general practice in San Diego before moving to Hampton Roads, VA, to train as a specialist. During this time he also completed a Master of Public Health degree (Veterinary Public Health) through the U of MN School of Public Health, and became Certified in Public Health (CPH). After six years in Norfolk/Virginia Beach, Dr. Bean and his family returned home to the Twin Cities, where he founded the Avian & Exotic Medicine Department at Animal Emergency & Referral Center of Minnesota, the first exotics specialty service in the state. In 2022, he founded a residency program in avian and exotic medicine, again the first of its kind in the state. Dr. Bean is also an Clinical Instructor at the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine, where he instructs students in avian and exotic medicine and surgery. He lives with his wife and two children in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
