Illumination Workshop with artist Behnaz Karjoo

Sat, April 4, 2026 • 1:00pm - 4:00pm (3h) • Huling Hall 316
Geometric shapes upon a spectrum of color panels

In this three-hour workshop, participants will explore the traditional Persian and Islamic art of tazhib (illumination) with artist Behnaz Karjoo, who holds an ijazah, meaning formal permission to teach this centuries-old practice. Through demonstrations of gold preparation, burnishing, pigment use, and design construction, she introduces the spiritual foundations of the artform. Participants will be guided step-by-step through the creation of their own design, inspired by marginal illuminations in historical Qur’anic manuscripts.

The event is free, but please register to attend.
