Choral Evensong Service
Come hear a mixture of the historic and the post-modern at a Choral Evensong offered by the Choir of St. Clement's Episcopal Church on Sunday, Feb. 23 at 5pm in Skinner Memorial Chapel. English cathedrals sing Evensong to this day using the same liturgy established by the Book of Common Prayer of 1662. While this liturgy has remained unchanged over the 360+ years since, the music within the service has always reflected its time and place. Music to be sung at this service includes a Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis setting by Rachel Laurin, commissioned by the Choir of St. Clement's for their 125th anniversary (in 2020), Ola Gjeilo's 2017 setting of the Hildegard of Bingen text "Ave generosa," plus chanted 1662 prayers composed by St. Clement's Music Director Dr. Mark Stahura '79, and traditional Anglican psalm chanting. Rev. Elizabeth Lienisch '08 will lead the service.
