As of April 21, 2011, four seniors at the college have received Fulbright Scholarships for the upcoming year. Jimmy Dreese, Eric Reich, Michael Phan Knudson and Francesca Chubb-Confer were announced as recipients of the prestigious award.

Former Carleton professor and alum Lance McCready recently returned to campus for a series of events this month. The focal point of Lance’s visit was a talk titled: “Black Masculinities in Urban Education” which he delivered to a standing room only crowd in Gould Library Athenaeum.

- Thursday, February 3: Department Open House. Please join us over common time to learn more about the concentration and licensure programs. Pizza will be served!
- Friday, February 4: Convocation by R. L’Heureux Lewis, Assistant Professor of Sociology and Black Studies at the City College of New York – CUNY. The title of his presentation is “Stony the Road We Trod: The March Towards Educational Justice.”
- Tuesday, February 8: Are you ready to make a powerful impact in youth lives through your career? Have you ever, or always, wanted to teach? If yes, then the Urban Teacher Residency with Academy for Urban School Leadership (AUSL) may be the opportunity for you. Please come meet with Tosha Downey, the Director of Recruiting over common time to hear more about this terrific program. RSVP to me by Friday, February 4. Pizza lunch will be served!
- Thursday, February 10: Public talk and book signing by Professor and Carleton alum, Lance McCready. Lance’s talk: “Black Masculinities in Urban Education” will be at 4:30 p.m. in the Library Athenaeum. Following the talk, Lance will be signing his new book, Making Space for Diverse Masculinities.

Save the Date for Upcoming Educational Studies Event
21 September 2010On Wednesday, October 27th, interested Carleton students are invited to our annual Alumni Teaching Panel. Come hear the trials, but mostly tribulations, of current teachers and student teachers in the field. Our alumni represented experiences from schools all over the metro area: urban, suburban, and charter. Students will have the chance to ask questions, visit with alumni, and eat pizza. This event is co-sponsored with the Career Center.
