Board of Teaching Approves all Carleton Teacher Licensure Programs
2 June 2009The Educational Studies Department is pleased to announce full approval by the Minnesota Board of Teaching for all teaching licensure preparation programs offered by Carleton College. We wish to express our gratitude to everyone who helped with this two-year process, including the Dean of the College Office, department chairs and assistants, and faculty who provided syllabi. Special thanks to Annie Bosacker, Charlie Black, Christine Lac, Dan Bruggeman, Deanna Haunsperger, Nelson Christensen, Cameron Davidson, Cindy Blaha, Matt Rand, Susan Singer, Mike Hemesath, Debby Walser-Kuntz, Cherif Keita, Roger Paas, Jorge Brioso, and Cris and Sue Roosenraad for all of their extensive program liaison work and to the entire Teacher Education Committee for their moral support.
The following Carleton teacher preparation programs are all fully approved until June 30, 2015:
- Communication Arts and Literature (English)
- Mathematics (mathematics and computer science)
- Sciences (astronomy, chemistry, physics, geology, and biology)
- Social Studies (American studies, economics, history, political science, psychology, religion, sociology/anthropology)
- Visual Arts (studio art, art history)
- World Languages and Cultures (French, German, and Spanish)

Department Hosts Nonprofit Resource Panel and Luncheon
29 April 2009On Wednesday, April 22nd, the educational studies department, in conjunction with QuIRK (Carleton Quantitative Inquiry, Reasoning, and Knowledge Initiative), hosted a panel discussion and luncheon with Dr. Lloyd Bond, a noted scholar with the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching; Gardner Gay, Executive Director of A Better Chance- Eden Prairie; Traci Parmenter, Chief Operating Officer, Admission Possible; and Mike Thorsteinson, Executive Director of Three Rivers Community Action.
