Dr. Daron Acemoglu, the Elizabeth and James Killian Professor of Economics in the Department of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology
A look around the world shows that governments vary greatly in their tendencies to repress the people and/or provide for the public good. Professor Acemoglu's research studies the conditions under which we might hope for a healthy state which is strong enough to provide for the peoples' well-being and yet held in check so that it does not use that power to repress.
