Message to Alumni Regarding the College’s Spring Term Plans

12 March 2020

Dear Carleton Alumni,

We write to share President Poskanzer’s message from this morning about the steps we are taking to care for one another during this time of COVID-19 (novel coronavirus). We would also like to provide more information regarding Carleton alumni events both on and off campus.

We hope your Carleton network can be a place to find support and stability during these uncertain times. The indelible connections between Carls made the decision to cancel or postpone all on- and off-campus alumni gatherings and events from March 13 until at least April 30 all the more difficult. Reunion 2020 is currently scheduled for June 18-21 and we are continuing to plan for a remarkable time for everyone returning to campus.

We are so grateful to all of the alumni and staff who had dedicated significant time and energy organizing these events, especially Coffee with Carls. Although we regret that we must cancel or postpone these events, we encourage all members of the Carleton community to utilize the Alumni Directory as an important resource for staying connected.

Many alumni have already asked how they can best support students at this time. In addition to the connection Carls have with one another, the college relies on financial support from alumni through the Alumni Annual Fund in order to provide a pathway forward for students, helping to cover unexpected costs of travel, housing, meals, supplies, etc.

In the immortal words of our former President Larry Gould, you are a part of Carleton, and Carleton is a part of you. We hope that whatever situations you may face in your own community, whether related to this pandemic or not, know that Carleton will be here for you.

Sincerely,

Tommy Bonner, Vice President for External Relations
Becky Zrimsek ’89, Assistant Vice President for External Relations
Michael Thompson ’96, Director of Alumni Relations
