Update to Faculty and Staff about Spring Break Travel

10 March 2020

Dear Carleton Faculty and Staff,

Due to growing concerns about the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), today we made the decision to cancel all Carleton-sponsored travel scheduled to take place over spring break. Additionally, we ask that you defer other work-related travel. Furthermore, we strongly discourage any international travel by any member of our community, as it comes with the risk of being quarantined or prohibited from re-entering the country.

As an advisory matter, please be aware that if you travel domestically or internationally, you may be required to quarantine yourself off campus for 14 days upon return.

We know this change presents complications for some of you, but we believe this action will put fewer members of our community at risk at a time when we are all trying to mitigate the spread of this highly contagious virus. We are continuing discussions about what steps need to be taken to safeguard our campus community for Spring Term while minimizing disruptions to the academic experience.

We are also aware that colleges across the country are making announcements about their own plans, and you may be anxious to hear more on additional plans extending beyond spring break. Carleton’s trimester schedule means that we are at a different place in the academic calendar than many of our peers. We have teams actively discussing options, and we will continue to communicate with the campus community as decisions are made. We appreciate your continued patience as we respond to this rapidly evolving situation. Please continue to visit Carleton’s COVID-19 website for the most up-to-date information.

Sincerely,

Bev Nagel
