Whitney Gunter

I grew up in the small town of Heron Lake in southwestern Minnesota. I graduated from the University of South Dakota (Vermillion) in 2011 with a degree in Business Management. During college, I worked at the campus bookstore (a Barnes & Noble College location) and completed their management-in-training program. After graduation, I became the manager of the Mount Mary University Bookstore in Milwaukee, WI.

After a few years in Wisconsin, I felt the pull of home and moved back to Minnesota. I joined Carleton as the store manager of the Carleton Bookstore, where I served from 2015 to 2021, before managing the St. Olaf Bookstore from 2021 to 2023.

In 2023, I made a leap and transitioned into a new role as the Development Coordinator at Carleton, supporting Milestone Reunions (25th and 50th) and Planned Giving. In February 2025, I stepped into the role of Assistant to the Associate Vice President for Development.

I live in Faribault with my husband (Sam), two sons (Mason and Myles), and dog (Chloe – 70lb black lab/pit-bull mix.)

I enjoy being outdoors, staying active, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.

One of my favorite micro-communities at Carleton is the group of “Rec Center regulars.” We take our lunch hour to sweat it out together, usually complaining a little along the way, but we always end up with a great workout and stronger connections with people across all areas of the college.
