Fatima Basharat

Associate Chaplain for Muslim and Interfaith Life, Chaplain's Office

Fatima Basharat is serving as the Associate Chaplain for Muslim and Interfaith Life at Carleton College and St. Olaf College. She completed her Bachelor’s in Islamic Studies in Pakistan (2021), followed by a Master’s in Peacebuilding from Hartford International University (2022) and a Master’s in Chaplaincy from HIU (2025).

Trained in trauma-informed dialogue, Fatima’s work is rooted in her passions for dialogue, nature, and art. She believes our polarized world desperately needs meaningful dialogue to bridge differences and foster understanding, and she finds nature and art to be profound sources of healing and wisdom. Her dedication to serving others is reflected in her varied experiences, from volunteering with the NewSpring Foundation, where she supported families of incarcerated individuals, to serving as an Interfaith Chaplain at a hospital in NJ over the summer. She also served as a Spiritual Director for college students at the North East Islamic Center, CT chapter, and worked as an intern chaplain at Yale’s Chaplain’s Office.

Fatima has a passion for learning and teaching, which she brought to her role educating 8th-grade students at an Islamic school before joining the chaplaincy team.

Originally from Pakistan, Fatima brings a rich multicultural perspective to her chaplaincy work. She is fluent in English, Urdu, and Turkish, with working proficiency in Arabic, allowing her to connect with diverse communities through shared language and cultural awareness.

Fatima looks forward to fostering connections and providing spiritual care that honors both individual needs and community well-being in her role serving at the college campus.
